Our Director
Jen is the daughter of our founding principal and the other half of thew dancing school partneship with Tania. Jen runs all the administration of our school and also has a background in dance, teaching and administration. Jen performed for many years in amateur theatre and choregraphed in conjunction with Lynda for MOTTS - Mentone Old time Theatre Society. Shehas taught dance and exercise inlcuding tap dancing to many adults.

Our Teachers

Our teachers are all fully trained or professional teachers with ongoing self education in dance and membership in recognised teaching associations. We have wonderful teachers who are fully committed to helping us "be the best we can be."

Miss Anne-Marie Ludwig-Cox
Diploma of Dance Australian Ballet School
Anne-Marie originally began her training at the Sheila Lang Dance Centre in Adelaide and continued to do a Diploma in 1987-1989 at the Australian Ballet School. She since then has performed with several Ballet companies including; the London Ballet Theatre, Australian Ballet Company, Singapore Dance Theatre, European Ballet Company and more. Anne was part of Phantom of the Opera over in Germany and the U.K from 1999-2004.
Miss Bridget Barfoot
DFTA Cert IV Dance Teaching & Management Bridget is the granddaughter of the founder of the school. She has been dancing for 16 years now at Mathis School of Dancing and has just completed Certificate 4 in Dance Teaching & Management at the Dance Factory. She has studied TAAD Jazz and Tap, DFTA Tap, Jazz, Classical and Funk and has also just completed her Intermediate Cecchetti exam and is now studying her Associate in Cecchetti Ballet. She has been involved in corporate events at the MCG and is excited to see what the future holds.

Miss Sammie Barker
Diploma of Dance Performance

Sam has been studying dancing since she was three years old, starting at Karen Taylors then Dance Semantics, where she studied Cecchetti, TAAD jazz and tap, SFD jazz and tap and contemporary. She then moved on and completed a two year full time course at The Australian Conservatoire of Ballet, formally Christine Walsh Dance Centre, where she completed her diploma in dance. She has performed soloist in many repertoires including, “Le Corsaire, Swan Lake , Paquita and Sleeping Beauty.” She has also performed for the Australian Pops Orchestra. She has training in Cecchetti, Vaganova, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Lyrical, Acrobatics, Musical Theatre, Yoga and Pilates. She has received distinction in many of her exams .She has been teaching since she was 15, and enjoys passing on her knowledge to students.

Miss Sally Radford
TAAD Jazz Diploma (Hons)Bartuccio Cert 3 in Dance and Musical Comedy Sally began her dance training at the Lynda Mathis School of Dancing at the age of four. There she has trained in Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Contemporary, Song and Dance and National, obtaining honors for almost all of her exams. Sally is trained in the Cecchetti and TAAD methods of dance. After completing her VCE with excellence awards in Dance and Dance Styles, Sally studied at Danceworld 301and completed her Certificate 3 in Dance and Musical Comedy at Bartuccios Dance Centre. Since becoming a professional dancer Sally has worked with many choreographers such as Kelly Aykers and Tony Bartuccio and performed for many companies in corporate and performance shows such as Alana Scanlan Productions, Nokia, Qantas, BMW Australia, Nestle, Joanne Aderley Productions, Cirque De Soile, The Victorian Pops Orchestra and In Style Magazine. Sally was also one of only four dancers to perform for Loreal Paris during the 2003 Melbourne Spring Carnival. She has appeared in music video clips for Meryil Bainbridge and Deni Hines. Sally has been involved in Australian tours for American R'n'B group Next and tribute shows for Johnny O'Keefe. Sally was also a dancer for the NRL Melbourne Storm Thunder Dance Squad for two years. She holds a Level Two First Aid Certificate.
Miss Louisa Mitchell
TAAD Jazz & Tap Diploma
Louisa has been involved with the Mathis School of Dance from the age of three, when she began training under the founder, Miss Lynda Mathis, in classical, tap, jazz, contemporary and national. She studied her VCE Dance Styles with Lynda Mathis and was invited to perform at the Season of Excellence (showcasing exemplary student work). She attained her T.A.A.D. Teaching Diploma in Tap Dance with Honours, and is currently studying for her Cecchetti Associate Diploma in classical dance. Louisa dances in a professional cabaret show at venues around Melbourne , and has performed in many various corporate events. Her love of choreography, which was fostered at the Mathis School of Dance, has led her to choreograph for several theatre companies, including MOTTS, ASPECT and MLOC. Louisa completed her Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, and is passionate about the health and wellbeing of our community, and in particular our children.
Mrs Tania Robins
Bachelor of Education: - Primary/Secondary in Dance, Drama and Theatre Design.
Jazz teaching Certificate T.A.A.D. Tania is a past student of The Mathis School of Dancing and is one half of the partnership of the dancing school. She trained to be a teacher at Rusden, Deakin University in Dance, Drama and Theatre Design and studied Theatre Craft at The National Theatre, St Kilda. she holds her teaching Certificate in TAAD Junior Jazz Ballet/ Theatrical Dance. She has taught Drama, Dance and Music in Primary and Secondary schools as well as Studios and Theatre Companies for over 15 years. She has performed in both Professional and Amateur stage shows including M.O.T.T.S and John Hancock's Theatre Restaurant, ABC TV and Bata Shoe Commercials.
Mr Brinley Eastwood
Diploma Dance Performance DFTA Brinley completed his Diploma of Dance at the Dance Factory & is currently tapping with Gerry Symonds. - one of the original tap dogs in “Men on Tap”. Brinley has been involved in numerous corporate events throughout Melbourne including: VIP Fashion Parades, Carols by Candlelight at Sidney Myer Music Bowl, funk/hip hop shows at Crown Casino and has also choreographed a number of funk, tap and lyrical routines for many companies. He has also appeared in Neighbours and has choreographed a 1950's cabaret piece for a short film to be shown at the Melbourne international film festival.
Miss Aubrey Flood
Aubrey Flood has been a student of Lynda Mathis Dance School for 7 years. She graduated from Kilbreda College in 2008 and studied both Music and Dance in VCE while performing lead roles in the school's musicals, as well as being a House Music Captain. A classically trained singer, Aubrey also is working her way through her AMEB exams. She has been training in classical style from an early age, starting in a church choir. Aubrey is also studying for T.A.A.D Diploma of Tap.

Miss Christine Waters
M.A.T.D.,M.T.A.A.D.,D.F.T.D.,
A.O.T.D, Cert GWT Syllabus Christine is an examiner, an Adjudicator and also Assessor for the Victorian College of Arts. A well known dance teacher who also studied R.A.D. Classical Ballet to an advanced level, Tap, Jazz, and Musical Comedy from many teachers, including May Downs , Martin Rubenstein and Betty Pounder. She also studied in London for a time, attended classes in New York at "Steps on Broadway" and Los Angeles where she gained a Teachers Certificate. She has performed with the legendary Hollywood dancers Cyd Charisse and Yvonne De Carlo in Musicals travelling throughout Australia and New Zealand . Christine had regular ongoing television appearances in shows such as GTV9 Tarax show, Showcase, Graeme Kennedy's IMT, Variety Specials, and has appeared in movies and television series. She has choreographed for Kath and Kim, Dame Edna Everage, Paulini, Irene Cara, David Hobson, Kate Cebrano, Australian Girls' Choir, and assisted with Olivia Newton John's Gala Benefit Performance at Crown Casino. Christine had her own dance school for 18 years and has taught for May & Tuppy Downs, the Council of Adult Education, National Children's Dance Theatre, CBs Dance Studio. She co-wrote the Jazz Dance Syllabus for the T.A.A.D. with Lynda Mathis . 

 

Assistant & Student Teachers

We have assistant teachers & student teachers helping throughout our school under the supervision of the qualified teachers. The student teachers begin by helping the young classes and progress as they study towards their teaching diplomas. We run our own exam classes for the students to attain their teaching diplomas in various dance genres.

Lynda was highly qualified and experienced teacher and a Fellow of the Ballet and Stage Branches of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. These branches include Tap dancing, Jazz, Limbering, Musical Comedy and Theatrical Studies. She was a fully registered Dance Teacher in both Australia and Britain . Lynda was a long standing member of the Teachers Australia Academy of Dance (T.A.A.D) which covers ballet, jazz and tap styles of dance. She designed and co-wrote with Christine Waters the Jazz Dance Syllabus which is used in T.A.A.D. exams today. Lynda danced in and choreographed many professional and amateur shows in Britain and Australia including being choreographer for shows for the Tivoli Theatre in Melbourne , and several TV shows. An experienced Teacher, performer, Choreographer and Director, she encouraged her students to develop their creative talents and was a great motivational force in giving her students a "love of dance" and furthering their careers in the professional world of theatre and teaching.

We follow this tradition to keep her legacy alive.
